Walks Worth Barking About
Stable View Barn has so many great walks literally from the doorstep! here are the ones we either walked or planned to walk on our visit!
Walkeringham Nature Reserve
A free nature reserve with a circular trail (~6 hectares), ideal for a relaxed, peaceful walk with your dog on lead
Varied habitat—wetland, scrub, grassland—makes for engaging sniffing spots. A firm, marked path keeps you safe and respectful of wildlife.
Canal, River & Countryside Routes
The area surrounding Stable View Barn includes river and canal paths, plus bridleways and cycle routes that are dog-friendly and accessible directly from the property.
These rural routes let pups explore wide-open spaces at a leisurely pace—perfect for sniffing, scavenging, and gentle exercise.
Clumber Park (approx. 30 to 35 minute drive)
A glorious National Trust estate with woods, lakes, heathland and sweeping avenues, ideal for longer morning or afternoon walks
Dogs are welcome—usually off-lead where permitted—but many paths require them under control around wildlife and livestock. There’s a visitor centre café and ample scenic spots to pause.
Southwell Trail
A 7.5-mile multi-user trail converted from an old railway line, suitable for walkers and dogs alike, weaving between Farnsfield, Kirklington and Southwell
Great to explore if you fancy a change of scenery—just bring water and snacks, and perhaps plan for a café stop in Southwell.
Tips for Smooth Paws-on Stay
Pack dog towels, extra beds or blankets, and favourite treats; though the garden is secure, mud happens!
Bring poo bags and hygiene essentials, handy for countryside etiquette
Many local trails are open—we recommend checking for bridleways, farmland routes, and places to sit with a coffee and pup
Book your stay with some flexibility; mid‑week bookings often quieter and more tranquil
In Conclusion
Stable View Barn is a wonderfully simple answer to a dog-friendly staycation in the UK countryside. Clean, spacious, perfectly dog‑friendly—and a little slice of calm that feels truly restorative. Just you, your dog, and the gentle rhythms of rural Nottinghamshire. 🐶🌿
