A stay at The Longsands House -📍Tynemouth

Updated: Feb 17

Living in Durham we are less than an hours drive away from the Northumberland coast, but like many people living in Country Durham we are guilty of not visiting the stunning Northumberland Coast often enough.

Recently we had a lovely stay in Tynemouth in The Longsands Home a recently renovated tropical paradise less than 1/2 a mile from the coast.

The best part....It's Dog Friendly!

Situated minutes away from the Longsands Beach in Tynemouth, it's the perfect costal retreat whether your looking for a relaxing long weekend in the autumn/winter sunshine or a week of fun filled coastal adventures. This house has what you need!

What to expect at The Longsands home

The Longsands home is tastefully decorated in a tropical meets costal style and is gushing with cosiness. It also had everything we could possibly need during our stay.

As you enter the open plan living room from the entrance hall you are greeted with a cosy comfortable corner sofa with a feature media wall housing a smart TV and fire! The bookcases either side feature coastal artwork from the surrounding area really amplifying the coastal feel.

The huge open kitchen/diner merges from the living area with the same tropical/coastal feel. The kitchen/diner is an extension from the original property and features skylights and long bi-fold doors that really let in maximum light. The bench style dining table right next to the bi-fold doors is a perfect spot for morning coffee & breakfast while the dogs potter in the garden and would be even more perfect to open up in the warmer months!

When we arrived Adrianne had very kindly left us tray of local goodies on the Island, including bread from the local Jamisons bakery and Strawberry Robsons Jam. Chester and Crumble weren't left out and were especially pleased with the jar of treats left for them!

The modern stylish kitchen has everything you could need and there are several options for cooking at Longsands; oven, gas hob, pizza oven or air-fryer! I have to say this is probably one of the most well stocked houses we’ve stayed in to date! It is so fully equipped with everything you could think of! It also has all the essentials including; a washing machine, dishwasher, fridge freezer, espresso coffee machine, as well as all glassware crockery, utensils, pans etc.

The bar cart in the dinning area is a unique touch with speciality Gin and Champagne glasses along with some cocktail accessories to get creative.

The tranquil tropical vibes downstairs are continued upstairs into the bedrooms.

The Longsands Home is a two bedroomed property that sleeps up to four people. Both the bedrooms are as stylishly styled at the downstairs and each have a similar yet different theme.

The larger bedroom "Master" has a king sized bed (which is very comfortable) with dark wood furniture, a large mirrored sliding wardrobe and dressing table which has a hairdryer in the drawer.

While the smaller room has a double bed (also super comfortable) and hanging rail

Dog Friendly Paw Rating - 5*

Longsands is ultra dog friendly and doesn’t have any set rules for your dogs. Adrianne wants it to be their home away from home too! There are mats by the door to wipe muddy paws.

Dogs are allowed to lounge on the sofa, snooze on the beds and have zoomies in the secure garden. Dog bowls and throws are provided along with welcome treats. All that a dog could need really!

Adrianne has also built under stairs storage in the form of drawers which was a great place to store their harness and leads out of the way!

The surrounding areas have so many dog friendly cafe, bars and restaurants to visit while your staying (More details of where we visited below)

Gardens & Hot Tub

The Bi-fold doors in the dinning area, extend the house into the large secure garden. The large patio was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings while the dogs enjoy pottering around the grass and trees exploring all the new smells. On the patio there is a large corner sofa and egg chair, while to the back of the garden their is a Hot Tub and smaller gravelled seating area.

To fellow dog parents concerned about escape artists, don't be. The fences are all 6ft and there are two side gates that no pup is getting under!

Staying somewhere with a Hot Tub is always extra relaxing but this set back bamboo surrounded hot tub was an absolute dream, providing a relaxing experience in what felt like a tropical paradise (until I got out!🥶). Adrianne has installed twinkly light all around the garden so you can enjoy the hot tub day or night! Its pretty special in the dark! It was the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring the stunning coastline.

Surrounding Area

Perfectly placed for gorgeous coastal walks. Cullercoats, Tynemouth and Whitley bay are just minutes away!

On our first day we drove to Whitley Bay and walked along the coastal route to St Marys Lighthouse.

After exploring we visited the dog friendly The Beach Hut for a coffee. Before heading back for a movie night at Longsands!

We would like to say a huge 'Thank You' to Adrianne for having us, we won't hesitate to return in the future for another coastal getaway!

Love Sarah, Chester & Crumble
