A Cosy, Accessible Retreat Tailored for Dogs
If you’ve ever dreamed of a holiday where both you and your dog are equally pampered, The Burrow at Sandhole Cottages in Cheshire might just be your perfect match. Nestled within the grounds of a 17th-century farmhouse, this Grade II-listed barn conversion blends rustic charm, thoughtful accessibility, and dog-loving hospitality in a way that’s hard to beat.
Nestled into the grounds of Sandhole Farm, The Burrow is a charming Grade II‑listed barn conversion thoughtfully designed with wheelchair access—but don’t think that limits its appeal to non‑disabled guests!

Arriving at Sandhole Cottages:
Your adventure to The Burrow at Sandhole Cottages begins the moment you leave the main roads behind and wind your way into the heart of the Cheshire countryside. The postcode will get you most of the way here, but like all the best rural escapes, the last little stretch is part of the charm. As you turn up Sandhole Lane — a narrow country lane marked “unsuitable for motor vehicles” (you can ignore that, it’s perfectly fine for guests). The lane gently climbs, framed by hedgerows, and within 150 yards you’ll see the first and only driveway on your right. Welcome to Sandhole Cottages & Livery!
On arrival, roll into the car park, find your cottage space, and take a moment to breathe in the peace and quiet. If you’re bringing horses, Anna should have made prior arranged (We only took dogs so I'm not 100% sure on Horse protocol!)
From the car park you will see a main gate which leads to all the cottages aside The Snug. Every cottage aside from The Snug has two entrances the main front and rear garden entrance (Although to get the keys from the key safe you'll need to enter the main way first) Once we secured our keys we left our butler aka Pops to bring in our bags round the back entrance.

Then only thing left to do is unpack, settle in, and start enjoying your stay — because the best part of the journey has only just begun.
The Space:
Ground Floor Living
The heart of the cottage is a bespoke, handmade kitchen—complete with sleek appliances like a cooker and dishwasher, plus all the essentials you'll need for a hearty meal or quick bite. This kitchen flows into the open-plan living and dining space, where sumptuous sofas invite you to sink in after a day of countryside adventures. A TV and DAB radio add just the right modern touches.
Let the fresh air in through the rear stable door and step out onto your private patio, furnished with outdoor dining furniture and a 4 person hot tub; perfect for while you soak in the peaceful views.
Sleeping Arrangements
The Burrow has two bedrooms. Both bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. The upstairs room offers a lovely view of the neighbouring fields, while the downstairs area includes an open-plan kitchen, living room, and the master bedroom.
On the ground floor, you'll discover the elegant master bedroom, equipped with a king-size bed, luxurious cotton linens, a TV, and plenty of wardrobe space. Above, nestled under the rafters, is the charming Swallows Nest mezzanine—a cozy spot perfect for reading or enjoying a quiet moment alone.
The interior beautifully blends modern and traditional furniture and features. All the cottages are made of Cheshire red brick from the original outbuildings, and I really enjoyed seeing the before and after photos Sandhole shares on their social media, showcasing the transformation from rooms filled with hay bales and animal bedding to their current state.
Upstairs in the eaves is the second bedroom, which can be set up as a king-size or twin room, featuring soft linens, a TV, and its own well-equipped en‑suite bathroom.
Practical Comforts & Thoughtful Extras
Both bathrooms are immaculately designed with modern showers, WCs, heated towel rails, and eco-friendly hand soap and shower gel. The cottage is wireless throughout, with smart TVs ready for movie nights, and thoughtful touches like a welcome pack with milk, tea, coffee, sugar, eco washing-up liquid, surface spray, and dishwasher tablets—so you can feel instantly at home.
What Makes It Dog Heaven at Sandhole Cottages:
Welcomes up to two well‑behaved dogs for £10 per dog per night
Each canine guest receives a welcome goodie bag including treats, towels, and blanket
There is also access to a Mud Daddy doggy shower to clean up after woodland romps

When the dogs are out of the cottage they are required to be on lead because the livery is on site meaning there are horses and riders around at all times. That’s no problem though as you never need to be in direct contact with the horses. However inside the patio area there isn't anywhere for the dogs to 💩. There is a designated grass area off the car park for you to take your dogs, but it isn't ideal if you struggle with your mobility or dog is reactive as they will more than likely bump into people or other dogs. The grass in front of the cottage has a strict no dog business policy which was a disappointment for Crumble as she did everything in her power to get a whiff of the sacred grass!
Outdoor & Walkies
Cheshire is a dream for dog walkers with endless areas for dog walking!
Delamere Forest – Miles of woodland paths, a sparkling lake for paddling, and a dog-friendly café to refuel.
Whitegate Way – A flat, accessible trail perfect for a gentle stroll or cycle, with a café at Whitegate Station.
Old Pale Hill – A short, satisfying climb with panoramic views across the county.
Marbury Country Park – Beautiful gardens, streams for splashing, and plenty of open space.
Local pubs – The Tigers Head and The Hare and Hounds are both just a short wander away and welcome dogs with open arms.
You’ll also find quiet lanes and footpaths right from the doorstep—perfect for those early-morning or sunset strolls.
