A attractive country pub that's literally situated in the heart of Durham. It's country feel is thanks to the surrounding woodland of Flass Vale, lending it a quiet and scenic feel, despite having very easy access to the busy and bustling centre of Durham. With rooms to rent, this is also a great place to stay as well.
Regarding the restaurant, it holds a Gold Star Award from the AA guidebook, meaning you can trust you'll always have a great meal there. The menu is very seasonal, and changes all the time, using only the freshest ingredients at every time of the year. However, it typically consists of classic gastropub style food. Steak and ale pies, pan-roasted chicken breast and beer battered fillets of fish are common features of the menu and of course a Sunday roast. There's a great range of drinks on offer too. This place is exceptionally dog friendly, dogs get a very warm welcome and the bar has a treat jar just for them! It gets a huge thumbs up from us, and a paws up from the pooches too.
